  • Do you know how many types of marriage exist?

Do you know how many types of marriage exist?

When it comes to celebrating love, the possibilities are endless. Today, we introduce you to different types of weddings so you can choose the one that best represents you.

If you’re planning your wedding and feeling confused about which type of ceremony to choose, don’t worry! You’re not alone! Some couples dream of having a religious wedding to honor their faith and beliefs, while others prefer to steer away from formalities and protocols, opting for a ceremony that aligns with their personal tastes and uniqueness. We’ve created this blog to help you make a decision! Take note!

    Religious marriage

It is perhaps the most well-known and widely practiced type of wedding in the world. A religious wedding is a union that takes place within the framework of the faith that the couple professes. Depending on the type of religion, the marriage may or may not have legal validity, and the required procedures may also vary.

If you are getting married in the Catholic Church, your marriage will have immediate legal validity, and you will need to be baptized, confirmed, and have completed a marriage preparation course. For the Christian faith, it is necessary to have previously had a civil wedding and to officiate the ceremony before a pastor or church minister.

    Civil marriage

It is the simplest and quickest type of union since the ceremony takes place at a notary’s office, and as a legal union before the authorities, it is not based on religious rituals or norms. To have a civil wedding, you can do so at the nearest notary office or even request an at-home notary service.

If you want to learn more about the procedures, costs, and tips, check out our blog “What You Need to Know to Celebrate Your Civil Wedding in Colombia.”

    Interfaith and Intercultural Marriage

Are you Catholic and your partner Buddhist? An interfaith marriage is the perfect option for you! In this type of union, you won’t have to choose just one religious wedding style based on a specific faith; instead, both of your beliefs will have a place and their own spotlight. It’s essential to find a specialized officiant who can create the ideal balance and the respect that both religions deserve.

For couples from different countries and, consequently, diverse cultures, the best option is an intercultural wedding. How about blending Mexican and Colombian culture? Or Irish and Argentine traditions? There will surely be similarities and many differences, but don’t overwhelm yourself with endless combinations. At Wink, we can help you prioritize and plan every detail.

    Interfaith marriage | Wink Eventos

    Symbolic marriage

It is a union with a very strong emotional and symbolic significance, regardless of its lack of legal validity. This type of marriage can be officiated by a holistic teacher, a spiritual guide or coach, or even a friend or family member.

These ceremonies are perfect for celebrating on the beach or, why not, in an indigenous reserve under the guidance of a shaman.

    Same-sex marriage

Did you know that in Colombia, same-sex marriage has been legal since 2016? You can get married through a civil ceremony either at a notary’s office or at a chosen location with an officiant who has legal authority.

You can also opt for a solemn union, which consists of a contract where both parties agree on their duties and rights as spouses.

    Non-denominational marriage

It is a marital union where couples embrace their beliefs in God but do not necessarily align with a specific religion. The term “non-denominational” means that God will play an important role in the ceremony without referencing any particular faith.

    Destination wedding

These are weddings typically held in a location different from the couple’s place of residence. From a paradisiacal island to the top of a mountain, these celebrations prioritize the “tourism” factor for both the couple and their guests.

Remember, if you plan to get married abroad, you must ensure you meet all the legal requirements or, upon returning, have a civil ceremony in your home country.

    Elopement wedding

Did you know that “Elopement” means “to flee” in Spanish? This type of marriage originated from cases where couples had to run away to get married because they didn’t have their families’ approval.

Elopements have been modernized. Today, it’s no longer about marrying out of urgency or on a whim but rather about having an intimate wedding, with no witnesses or guests, in remote locations and sometimes even in secret.

    Wink Tip:
You might think that for an elopement, all you need is an officiant and the two of you. However, adding decorations, a special dinner, and a photographer to capture the moment are essential services to create the best experience and the most beautiful memories. Have questions? We’re here to help!

There is one absolute truth: love is diverse and can be celebrated in countless ways. There is no type of wedding better than another—there is only the one that is perfect for you and your preferences.

We hope this blog has answered all your questions and helped you clarify your ideal type of wedding. Whenever you need it, you’ll find in Wink a friend, an ally, a single provider for every service, and best of all, zero stress!

  • Civil Marriage in Colombia. Requirements, Costs and Step-by-Step Guide

Civil Marriage in Colombia. Requirements, Costs and Step-by-Step Guide

If you’ve decided to get married through a civil ceremony and have some doubts about the legal procedures you need to complete to make it happen, this blog is for you!

We know that marriage is the result of deep love between two people who have decided to accompany each other for the rest of their lives. However, we must not forget that, under the law, marital union represents a patrimonial and conjugal society with rights and duties.

To carry out a civil marriage in Colombia, it is necessary to follow a series of requirements depending on your situation, and at Wink, we’ve listed them for you:

If you and your partner are still legally considered single:

    • You must have the civil marriage application completed and notarized, submitted by you and your partner, or by an attorney if necessary.
    • Don’t forget the importance of having each person’s birth certificate, issued no more than 3 months prior.
    • It is essential to make a photocopy of both citizenship ID cards.
    • You can also grant a special power of attorney to a family member or a close person in case you or your partner cannot personally submit the civil marriage application or even attend the ceremony.

If you are marrying a foreigner in a civil wedding:

    • If one of you is Colombian, you must follow the same steps as in the previous point.
    • For your foreign partner, you will need: a copy of their passport, an apostilled birth certificate (translated if necessary), a certificate of single status or its equivalent (apostilled and translated if needed), and an apostilled special power of attorney if they cannot attend.
    • Additionally, remember that if the documents are written in a language other than Spanish, they must be officially translated. If your partner does not speak Spanish, you must have an official translator present at the ceremony, identified with their ID and translator resolution, who will sign the deed.

If you and your partner are single but have children from a previous relationship:

    • In addition to the requirements from the first point, a solemn inventory of the minors’ assets and the birth certificates of the children are required.

If you and your partner are single but have children together:

    • In this case, you must also meet the requirements from the first point and additionally include the birth certificates of your shared children for their legitimization.

If you or your partner are getting married for the second time:

    • To the basic requirements mentioned in the first point, you must attach the birth certificate with a note of the divorce, dissolution, and liquidation of the marital property.
    • If you had a previous marital union declared notarized or judicially, the birth certificate must also include marginal notes of the dissolution and liquidation of the patrimonial society.
    • If you are widowed, you must provide the death certificate of the deceased spouse.

Did you know that in Colombia it is possible to carry out a Civil Wedding between minors?

    • That’s right! In Colombia, minors between the ages of 14 and 17 are allowed to marry, as stipulated in the Civil Code (Article 117), as long as they have the consent of their parents or legal guardians.
    • To get married, they must have this consent in a written permit that explicitly authorizes the marriage, along with the basic documents mentioned in the first point.

Now that you know the procedures, how about we talk about costs, extra recommendations, and some tips from Wink for your big day?

At Wink, we recommend checking with your notary how many guests are allowed to attend your civil ceremony, or even if you can livestream it via video call so that family or friends who live far away don’t miss this special moment.

  • 5 Expert Tips for the Making of Wedding Centerpieces

5 Expert Tips for the Making of Wedding Centerpieces

Dress, venue, catering? Check! But what about wedding centerpieces? No idea? At Wink we created a guide with our decoration tips for an outdoor night wedding. experts to help you.

We cannot deny that when it comes to wedding decoration, the centerpieces take a leading role, so much so that some guests wait until the last moment of the party to take them home as a souvenir of the big day. For this reason we aim for irresistible centerpieces! At the same time, centerpieces must complement the style of the bride and groom.

To accomplish this, follow these tips that will surely help you to have the best wedding decor.

Keep your style front and center

If you go to Google and type “Wedding Centerpiece Ideas” you will find over 15 million different results. How to choose between so many options? Before losing your mind, start looking at each design and narrow down your style. This will help you make a better decision.

    • Do you plan on having a vintage, hipster, boho or shabby chic wedding? Make use of green foliage and flowers such as paniculata, accompanied by metal buckets, chests, trunks, old books, lanterns and colored glass.
    • For a rustic or outdoor wedding, focus on using wood, cut tree trunks, bamboo, wicker, jute, fabrics, and natural wild flowers.
    • If your wedding is a classic and elegant style, cups, glasses, containers of various sizes, candlesticks, candles and golden threads will be your best ally. You can combine them with the most glamorous flower, the rose.
    • Are you getting married at a place like the beach? Feel free to use round fish bowls, boats, artificial starfish, pebble stones, ribbons and fire torches along with flowers such as gardenias, lilies and carnations, the latter being super resistant to high temperatures.
    • If the urban and industrial style appeals to you, use colored stones, bottles, garlands of lights, flowers such as tulips, chrysanthemums, dry branches and even colored fruits in your decoration.

    Stick to your color palette

A wedding color palette serves as a guide for your wedding planner and decorators to work around the colors you chose for your wedding. These colors should complement each other, have a functional contrast and ensure that visually every decor aspec is harmonious and uniform.

We share some colors combinations that will give you the original touch that you are looking for:

    • Elegant and Classic Weddings: Use colors such as white, pastel colors and on trend, such as nude pink or pastel peach.
    • Vintage Weddings: Make pale pink or yellow tones predominate, along with earth colors with an aged appearance.
    • Rustic or Country Weddings: they are perhaps the most versatile when choosing colors, you can base yourself on the green that you will have around you and combine it with touches of red, orange, blue and even pastel tones.
    • Beach weddings: White will always be in fashion in this type of celebration, to make it look fresher and more alive, use flowers of explosive colors such as fuchsia, turquoise, and even orange.
    • Urban and industrial weddings: Neutral tones such as white, beige, gray tones and black predominate in these weddings. Therefore, your centerpiece should provide that extra touch of light and color, with flowers in light blue, yellow, orange, and gold or copper elements.

Stick to your color palette | Wink Events

    Seasonal Flowers

This is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in the world of decoration. But at Wink, we like to give you the inside scoop. Did you know that by choosing flowers that are in season you can reduce costs and support local flower producers?

Ideally, you should confirm with your decorator, according to your wedding date, which flowers would be available in that season and choose them accordingly. If these flowers don’t make the cut, you can always get flowers out of season. Keep in mind that this will bring in its own challenges as flowers can be expensive to obtain and hard to secure.

The shape of the tables, the space and the light

This secret tip is one of our favorites because it leaves no room for error. It helps us to achieve that symmetry and uniformity that we talked about earlier, so stick to these rules to achieve great results:

    • If the tables are oval or round, a centerpiece with the same shape will look better.
    • If you want a large, rectangular banquet-style table, you’ll want to aim for table runners style centerpieces that can be straight..
    • If the tables are square, you can consider centerpieces in the same way, with angled profiles.

Remember that space and light greatly influence the perception of decoration. If your celebration is outdoors, you will not need to add more shades of green. If it is a closed space, your centerpieces with lit candles or white flowers will serve to illuminate the space.

    The size and height

Have you ever had to do the impossible to be able to see or speak to the person on the other side of the table because the centerpieces are so tall? Size does matter when it comes to centerpieces! and a simple rule that we can apply is: large environments allow more prominent centerpieces, while smaller spaces are better suited with minimalist, low and simple decorations.

  • Civil vs Religious Marriage — Merged Guide

Civil vs Religious Marriage — Merged Guide

At first glance, we may not notice many differences between these civil and religious marriage, but there are a series of distinctions between these two types of marriages—differences that can be decisive when choosing which type of wedding or marriage to carry out and which one you’ll actually be able to hold.

Among the factors that come into play when deciding what type of wedding you and your partner will opt for are: religious beliefs, personal preferences, and the marital status of both individuals.

Today, we want to explain the difference between these two types of marriages, and if you’re looking for information on the topic, you’ve come to the right place.

What is a civil and religious marriage?

    Civil Marriage

The concept of civil marriage refers to the union or bond between two people through a contract, by which both parties acquire rights and obligations. This type of marriage can be legally dissolved through mutual agreement, known as divorce.

To carry out a civil marriage, you and your partner (if both are single) must meet certain requirements, which are outlined below:

    • You and your partner must complete the civil marriage application, authenticated before a notary.
    • A copy of your identity documents.
    • Civil registry records, issued no more than 30 days prior.
    • Both must be over eighteen years old to freely enter into marriage.
    • You must be accompanied on your wedding day by two witnesses.
    • A power of attorney, in case one of the parties cannot be present.

It is important to note that this type of marriage can be formalized at any location and can even be conducted in the form of a symbolic wedding.

    Religious marriage

    Religious marriage | Wink Eventos

Unlike civil marriage, religious marriage encompasses various types of unions, including Jewish, Catholic, and Christian marriages.

Among the types of religious marriages mentioned above, Catholic marriage, in particular, must be conducted in a Catholic church or parish, following religious precepts. The other types of religious marriages may be officiated and/or celebrated outside a temple.

On the other hand, and in comparison to civil marriage, religious weddings are entirely tied to religious precepts and beliefs. For this reason, and unlike civil marriage, divorce does not exist in religious marriage.

The requirements to carry out a Catholic marriage are:

    • Baptismal certificate for marriage, issued no more than three months prior.
    • Birth certificate.
    • If either party is under eighteen years old, they must present parental permission.
    • Confirmation certificate.
    • Proof of preparation to receive the sacrament.
    • Original and copy of the identification documents of both parties.

The requirements to carry out a Jewish marriage are:

    • Present the parents’ marriage certificate.
    • The groom must provide proof of having completed the Bar Mitzvah.

The requirements to carry out a Muslim marriage are:

    • Birth certificate.
    • Two witnesses.
    • Permission or participation of the father or a guardian (for the bride).

It is important to highlight that Islam allows divorce.

The requirements to carry out a Christian marriage are:

    • Pre-marital course.
    • Civil marriage previously conducted.

We hope you make the best decision regarding the type of marriage you wish to celebrate, and most importantly, that you enjoy this very special day in your life.

  • Learn how to organize your wedding on the beach

Learn how to organize your wedding on the beach

Do you dream of a beach wedding? The sea in the background, an unbeatable climate and the feeling of walking on the sand? Did you imagine it? This blog is for you!

Getting married on the beach, without a doubt, is the dream of many couples. Just thinking that the most important day of your life can take place in a paradisiacal setting, surrounded by the most exuberant nature in a panoramic setting, is an irresistible idea. But where to start? How to organize the wedding of your dreams by the sea? Take note! At Wink, we help you

    1. Investigate what type of permits you need to process to get married

If you have already decided on a ceremony on the beach, the first step should be to choose which beach and in which destination. It is extremely important that before making a decision, you investigate the permits that are required to carry out your event.

On some beaches in the country, celebrations are not allowed since these places may be ecologically protected. There are even certain months of the year when they can totally deny entry, because the holding of events can affect some natural processes that occur on the beaches, such as whale watching, turtle births, and the mating of Marine species.

So, make sure you meet each requirement so that you have the perfect wedding on the ideal beach.

    2. The importance of organizing every detail for your beach wedding

Lorem fistrum por la gloria de mi madre esse jarl aliqua llevame al sircoo. De la pradera ullamco qué dise usteer está la cosa muy malar.

The guest list will greatly influence your budget and the experience your guests will have. We recommend that you choose the number of attendees at your wedding well, since on some beaches the space for the ceremony and reception is reduced. That is why most beach weddings tend to be small and intimate.

You may love a specific date to celebrate your wedding, such as your wedding anniversary, the day you were asked for your hand, among others.

Pareja de novios en la playa | Wink Events

However, it is important that this date is within the ‘low season’, because if you choose dates within holiday periods, the beaches may be too saturated with tourists and the rates rise considerably.

    • When we talk about rates, everything has to do with everything. If you choose high seasons, the prices of flights and transfers rise. If you have a very large guest list and offer them several nights of lodging, food and sightseeing in the area, you must have a budget that can cover each item.

Wink Tip: check the policies of the hotel where you are going to hold the celebration, because if you are a large group of guests, you can get special rates. Also, all-inclusive packages are a great option so you don’t have to worry about anything other than continuing to plan your wedding.

    • As far as decoration is concerned, the most important thing is that it represents your style. However, the most recommended decoration styles for getting married outdoors are: bohemian style, maritime style, and tropical vintage, with elements such as bamboo, umbrellas, wood, candles, sheer fabrics, and of course, flower arrangements.

For catering, we advise you to offer a buffet-style menu as it is perfectly suited to the fresh and natural style of the sea. We recommend you exalt the gastronomy of the place with dishes that contain fish, shellfish and fruits from the region.

Wink Tip: In your wedding invitations, remember to specify the ‘dress code’ according to the type of wedding you are going to carry out so that your guests know how to dress that day. We recommend light colors, floral prints and flat or wide platform shoes.

Are you not sure which wedding dress or groom suit to wear for your beach wedding?

For beach weddings, a relaxed and comfortable boho style is usually chosen. Recomendamos el uso de telas vaporosas y tejidos frescos como el lino. As for color, white prevails, but pastel tones or unconventional colors such as blue are also valid.

For the bride we recommend an airy and fresh dress, in the silhouette that you prefer together with accessories such as lace, flower crowns and loose hairstyles.

For the groom we recommend wearing a formal guayabera or a shirt without a tie and pants in light colors such as beige, ivory or gray.

    Have a Plan B | Wink Eventos

    3. It is always good to have a ‘Plan B’

Have you heard the saying “Better safe than sorry”? To get married on the beach, it is necessary to take this into account. The weather in Colombia is unpredictable, and on the Colombian Caribbean coast, the weather can change from one moment to the next and go from having a sun in all its splendor to having rain or too much wind.

We advise you to put together a plan B together with your wedding planner so that in case of any inconvenience, they can take shelter inside a location and even carry out the ceremony.

Civil vs Religious Marriage. Differences, Requirements and Which to Choose

Have you ever wondered civil marriage or religious ceremony? Although it clearly depends on your tastes and beliefs, we will make that decision easier for you.

Choosing the type of ceremony you want for your wedding day is apparently an easy decision. But the truth is that it doesn’t always work that way. For this reason, at Wink we have created a guide where you will learn about the differences between civil and religious marriage, aspects that go beyond what we all already know.

    Civil and Religious marriage

    Religious marriage

    Religious marriage | Wink Eventos

It is a union that is celebrated within the framework of the faith professed by the couple. In this type of wedding, the marital union is blessed by God, which makes it indissoluble, that is, there is no divorce figure; the marriage only ends with the death of one of the spouses.

According to each religion, some procedures, concepts and rituals change. However, in Colombia, the most common religions and with the most followers are the Catholic and Christian religions.

In the case of the rite by the Catholic Church, the couple must be baptized, have received First Communion and made confirmation and religious confession. As well as attach some documents:

    • Christening party.
    • Confirmation game.
    • Identification documents.
    • Premarital course certificate.
    • Single certificate.
    • Document-type photographs of each one.
    • Death certificate in case someone has been married and widowed.
    • Certificate of marriage annulment, in the event that someone has been previously married, they must have an order from the ecclesiastical court that specifies that their previous marriage was null and that they can remarry.
    • Civil divorce in case of having previously been married civilly and having divorced.
    • There are parishes that request a not very common permit called ‘Nihil Obstat’ which translates as ‘Nothing opposes’, in case you get married in a different parish than the one you were baptized as a child.
    • Marriage file, is a document that the parish priest carries out through an interview with the two bride and groom in the presence of two witnesses and then separately.
    • If someone has children, they must attach the baptismal certificate or birth certificate of the minor.

In the case of Christian marriage, it is essential to legalize the marriage through the civil wedding before the ceremony and also to attach some documents that we will tell you about below.

    Civil marriage

Getting married civilly is perhaps one of the most common ceremonies since they are performed before notaries or civil authorities and it does not depend on the faith or religion practiced by the couple. To do so, the couple must be of legal age or if they are minors, they must have the permission of their parents or legal representatives.

Among the procedures for civil marriage you must have the following documents:

    Boda civil | Wink Eventos

    • Completed and authenticated civil marriage request, presented by you and your partner or by a proxy if necessary.
    • The birth certificate of each one, valid for no more than 3 months.
    • Photocopy of the citizenship certificates.
    • A special power of attorney to a relative or a close person, in the event that you or your partner cannot personally present the civil marriage request or even cannot attend the ceremony.

To contract a civil marriage, they must not have been previously married, unless one of the two is legally divorced or widowed. In this case, they must present the divorce decree and/or the death certificate, respectively.

Keep in mind the expenses or notary fees that generally have a value of $44,200 pesos if it is done at the notary, and $119,200 for marriages outside the notary office or at home.

We know that the differences are notable in both ceremonies and that each type of marriage has its characteristics and advantages. However, it is worth remembering one similarity, the most important of all, and that is that these conjugal unions are made out of love.

Love is what moves us as human beings, regardless of religion, customs and ideology.

Whatever type of wedding you choose, rest assured that it will be the most special day of your life and if you let us, at Wink we will be more than willing to help you make it magical.

Long live weddings in all their expressions! Long live!

    Which One Should You Choose?

If you want a simple, fast, and affordable ceremony, civil marriage is the right choice. If your faith is central to your life and you want your marriage blessed by God, choose religious marriage. Many couples in Colombia choose both: a civil ceremony for legal purposes and a religious ceremony for spiritual meaning.

The good news is that you do not have to choose just one. Having both a civil and a religious wedding is common in Colombia. The civil part handles the legal paperwork, and the religious part gives you the ceremony you dreamed of.

  • Types of Marriage. A Complete Guide to All Forms of Marriage

Types of Marriage. A Complete Guide to All Forms of Marriage

When it comes to celebrating love. the possibilities are endless. Today we teach you different types of marriage so that you can choose the one that best represents you.

If you are making your wedding preparations and you are confused about what kind of ceremony to choose, don’t worry! You’re not alone! There are couples who dream of having a religious wedding and being faithful to their beliefs, while other couples prefer to get away from formalities and protocol, and have a wedding according to their tastes and particularities. We have created this blog to help you make up your mind! Take note!

    1. Religious marriage

    Religious marriage | Wink Events

It is perhaps the best known and most practiced type of marriage in the world. Religious marriage is a union that occurs within the framework of the faith that they profess as couples and depending on the type of religion, the marriage will be legally valid or not, likewise, the procedures to be carried out may vary.

If you are getting married in the Catholic Church, your marriage will be legally valid immediately and you will have to be baptized, confirmed and have completed a marriage course. For the Christian religion, it is necessary to have had a civil wedding before and officiate the ceremony before a pastor or minister of the church.

    2. Civil marriage

It is the simplest and most agile type of union since the ceremony is celebrated in the notary’s office, and being a legal union before the authorities, it is not based on rituals or religious norms. To get married civilly, you can do it at the nearest notary or even look for a notary service at home.

If you want to know more about procedures, prices and tips, go to our blog “What you need to know to celebrate your civil wedding in Colombia”

    3. Interreligious and intercultural marriage

Are you Catholic and your partner Buddhist? Interfaith marriage is your best option! In this type of union they will not have to decide on a single style of religious marriage based on a specific faith, but the faith of each one will have a place and their own role. It is necessary to find a specialized officiant to create the ideal balance and respect that both religions deserve.

For couples from different countries of origin and, consequently, different cultures, the best option is an intercultural marriage. How about mixing Mexican and Colombian culture? or The Irish and Argentine culture? Surely they will have similarities and many differences, but so you don’t fill your head with a thousand combinations, at Wink we can help you prioritize and plan every detail.

    4. Symbolic marriage

It is a union with a very strong sentimental and symbolic level, regardless of whether it has no legal value. This type of marriage can be officiated by a holistic teacher, a spiritual guide or coach, and even a friend or family member. These ceremonies are perfect to celebrate on the beach or why not, in an indigenous reserve under the guidance of a shaman.

    5. Equal marriage

Did you know that in Colombia marriage between same-sex couples has been legal since 2016? You can get married through a civil ceremony either at a notary or at a location through an officiant with legal authority.

You can also resort to a solemn union that consists of a contract where both agree on their duties and rights as spouses.

    6. Non-denominational marriage

It is a marital union where they accept their beliefs before a God but it does not necessarily fit into a specific religion. The concept “non-denominational” means that God will be an important part of the ceremony but without alluding to a specific belief.

    7. Destination wedding

They are usually weddings that are held in a location other than the residence of the couple. From a paradisiacal island to the top of a mountain, these are celebrations where the “tourism” factor is the most important, both for the couple and their guests. Remember that if you are going to get married abroad you must make sure you meet all the legal requirements or when you return, marry civilly in your country of origin.

    8. elopement marriage

Did you know that “Elopement” means “Fuga” in Spanish? And it is precisely this type of marriage that arose from the multiple cases in which couples needed to flee in order to get married because they did not have the approval of their relatives.

The elopements have been modernized, it is no longer about getting married by urgency and impromptu, but rather, to perform an intimate wedding, without witnesses or guests, in remote places and sometimes in secret.

Wink Tip: You may think that in an Elopement you will not need anything more than an officiant and the two of you. However, a decoration, a dinner and a photographer that captures that moment are essential services to achieve the best experience and the most beautiful memories. You have doubts? We help you!

There is an absolute truth and it is that love is diverse and can be celebrated in any way. There is no type of marriage better than another, there is only the best for you and your preferences.

We hope this blog has resolved any doubts and you are clearer about your ideal type of marriage. When you need it, you will find in Wink one more friend, one more ally, a single provider for each service and the best, Zero stress!

How Many Types of Marriage Exist?

There are more types of marriage than most people realize. While civil and religious marriages are the most common, couples today have many options. The type of marriage you choose depends on your beliefs, your budget, and what kind of ceremony you want.

Here is a quick comparison of the main types of marriage:

Type of Marriage Legal Status Who Officiates Best For
Civil Legally binding Notary or judge Couples who want a simple, legal ceremony
Religious (Catholic) Legally binding in Colombia Priest Couples who practice the Catholic faith
Religious (Christian) Requires prior civil marriage Pastor or minister Evangelical or Christian couples
Interreligious Can be legal if registered Two officiants or one interfaith minister Couples from different religions
Symbolic Not legally binding Any officiant or friend Couples who want a personalized ceremony
Common-law Recognized after time living together Not applicable Couples who live together without formal marriage

    Religious Marriage

Religious marriage is the best-known type. In a religious marriage, the union happens within the framework of a specific faith. For Catholics, marriage is a sacrament. The ceremony must follow Church rules, and the marriage is considered indissoluble, it lasts until death.

In Colombia, Catholic marriage is legally valid on its own. You do not need a separate civil ceremony. But you do need to be baptized, confirmed, and have completed a marriage preparation course.

Other Christian denominations require a civil marriage first. After that, a pastor or minister can officiate a religious ceremony in a church. The legal part is handled by the civil marriage; the religious part adds spiritual meaning.

    Civil Marriage

Civil marriage is the simplest and most flexible type. It is a legal union performed by a notary or judge. There are no religious requirements, making it a good option for couples of different faiths or no faith at all.

In Colombia, civil marriage requires both parties to be over 18, present valid ID, and bring two witnesses. The ceremony can take place at a notary office or at a location of your choice. The entire process is straightforward and usually takes less than an hour.

    Interreligious and Intercultural Marriage

More couples today come from different religious or cultural backgrounds. An interreligious marriage blends elements from both traditions. For example, a Catholic and a Buddhist couple might have a ceremony that includes both a priest and a Buddhist monk.

Intercultural marriages add another layer. The ceremony might include traditions from both cultures: music, food, clothing, and rituals from each side. These weddings are often the most memorable because they bring two worlds together.

    Symbolic Marriage

A symbolic marriage has no legal effect. It is a ceremony created by the couple to celebrate their commitment. Symbolic weddings are common for couples who are already legally married but want a personalized celebration, or for couples who do not want government involvement in their relationship.

The beauty of a symbolic wedding is that you can do whatever you want. Write your own vows, choose any location, include any ritual. There are no rules. The meaning comes from what you and your partner decide.

    Common-Law Marriage

In some countries, including Colombia, couples who live together for a certain period are recognized as common-law married. This gives them legal rights similar to married couples, especially regarding property and inheritance.

Common-law marriage is not a ceremony, it is a legal status that happens automatically after meeting certain conditions. In Colombia, a couple must live together for at least two years and present themselves as a married couple in public.

How to Choose the Right Type of Marriage for You

Choosing a type of marriage depends on three things: your beliefs, your budget, and how much control you want over the ceremony. Here is a simple way to decide:

    • If you want a legally simple ceremony with no religious content, choose civil marriage.
    • If your faith is central to your life, choose religious marriage.
    • If you come from different backgrounds, choose interreligious or symbolic marriage.
    • If you want total freedom to design your own ceremony, choose symbolic marriage.

You can also combine types. Many couples have a civil ceremony for legal purposes and a symbolic or religious ceremony for family and friends. There is no wrong choice.

Investigate several companies, check if they are of national, international or author cuisine, how many times the menu they propose has or what suitable combinations can be made, the most important thing: to know the available menus, the most requested and the recommended ones and if they have a special request ask if the company has the capacity and knowledge to develop said dish.

depending on the type of guests you have, look for the catering company to provide you with an inclusive menu: for vegetarians, vegans, children’s menu or diabetic people, each person should feel part of the party and you probably have one with a special diet, keep in mind Taking this great detail into account will ensure that everyone fully enjoys the celebration.
